Guilhermina Augusta Xavier de Medim Suggia was born in Porto in1885. She also died in Porto, in 1950.
Guilhermina Suggia was a talented violoncellist with a very successful international career. She began playing the instrument with her father that begin her musical education.
In 1901, she obtained a scholarship and left for Germany where she broadens her knowledge about the instrument. Years later, she plays solo in many European countries, where she is celebrated by her talent.
Her connection with Grande Hotel do Porto happened in 1923, when she resided with her mother at the hotel. During this period, she met Dr. Carteado Mena, also living at the hotel in that year. They got married soon after.
